In the pond is a skimmer that works by gravity thru a 1-1/2" pipe and a bottom drain with 3" pipe. We also have a mid-level drain (1-1/2") for Spring & Fall use when we do not want to disturb the bottom layer.
If you would like to see, I have placed some slide shows on my server http://boynabox.dyn.ml.org/gardens.htm You can partially bury a veggie filter like its a mini pond. Or sink it in a housing if you have drains and so forth.... The mechanicals can be put anywhere since you can just run the return pipe underground....
I was a mans house from our club & he had his set back a bit from the pond and hid behind some shrubs, but from what I saw it had to be the pits to clean or even reach - just my 2 cents worth ;o) -- Carol ...... fishhead at hotcom.net
Hello. We are having a landscaper put in a small waterfall with a small pond at the bottom. I am in zone 7, on Long Island, in New York. We love to garden, but never having a pond before, we are looking for some ideas of some small plants to place around the waterfall/pond to enhance the view ( preferably, but not restricted to perennials). Not at all familiar with aquatic plants, we are also looking to place a water lilly or something else to grow in the pond. We will not be having any fish. Does anyone have any good ideas for plants around or in the water? Thanks very much in advance for your assistance. Alan
If left to my own devices my two ponds would have become one pond with the upper (650 gallon) pond becoming a veggie filter to control the green water. This would have also meant getting rid of at least 9-10 fish. Hubby decided to start reading Koi, USA and we ended up putting an in ground, out-of-pond filter that is gravity fed. The ponds are now filtered with bio-foam. I tried putting some water hyacinths in the prefilter, but the roots got ed into the piping and plugged every thing up. This is how I describe my system:
